New Link

I added a link to my new photography blog.  It is a place for me to post some of the stories behind the pictures that I have currently hanging in Trent’s bakery.

Tractor Power

You really have to like it when things work.  I went back out to the land to get the lights we left out (or at least put them back in the hot house).  My options were limited so as much as I didn’t want to I decided to try and start the tractor.  I had forgot to take the battery off in the spring and the tractor had been sitting wrapped up all winter.  I wanted to do some spring maintenance on it before firing it up but…

I arrived at the tractor, unwrapped it, put the key in and all the lights came on the glow plugs warmed up and the tractor fired up like it was the summer time.  I managed to hook up the plywood sled with all the lights on it and everything slowly made it back to the main road.  The snow was deep but that tractor pulled through most of it.  Sometimes I had to help it crawl along with the front end loader.

Light Fixtures

It turns out getting the light fixtures for the grow racks is a little harder then anticipated.  Last year we salvaged the old office lights from what has become Trent’s bakery.  With very little place to store them we put them in the hot house we setup tucked away in the back of the land.  Because of the ballasts freezing I hope they will still work, but that is for a later.

The “road” into the back was still under heavy snow.  Much more then I initially assumed from when we snowshoed in.  We spent most of the afternoon just getting the truck out from where we had driven it into.  This meant a lot of shovelling.

This was the driveway after we got out.  Doesn’t look to menacing however, the snow got a lot deeper once we went off the main road.

After parking the truck back on the road we decided to walk in and try to pull a few lights out.  The trip would be just under 1/2 a mile (yes I know imperial units) one way.  We loaded four lights onto a sheet of plywood and attempted to pull.  In the picture we’re smiling…

but we actually only made it about 70 feet and decided this strategy wasn’t going to work.  So for now still no lights on the grow racks, the light fixtures are sitting out on the land freezing and the trail to get at them isn’t getting any easier.
