The first direct seeded crops went into the ground over the weekend. I started some peas, carrots, beets, spinach and carrots. The temperatures are still dropping down to around -5 C at night so I decided to delay some things for another week. Having no history for this early planting time it will be a learning experience to see how well everything grows. If I could sell quackgrass I’d be in business already.
Dad and I picked up the summer accommodations for the land. We couldn’t get it to move last time we tried to get the van because it was frozen into the ground (we also discovered a few mechanical issues). This time out we couldn’t get the van started so we had to pull it onto the trailer. It was actually a smooth operation and we drove it straight to the mechanic.
The wind finally stopped blowing enough for us to setup the poly over the garage package frame. Construction continues and hopefully soon it will be fully enclosed. Some of the started plants are in desperate need for more space. Although the forecast is for a low -10 C later this week so maybe it is a good thing nothing is outside yet.
