Gathering Fence Posts

December 7th, 2008

Close to the farm there is a radar site that had old poles that were not going to be used anymore.  The poles were big and heavy and took a bit of cutting and maneuvering to load them up and haul them out to the land.  The radar site itself is pastured by a nearby farmer.  While we were there some of the cows decided to come check us out.  The brown cow in the front actually put her head right into the truck at one point.  After a while they just kept moving on and we finished gathering the poles and left.

Hauling the fence.

This may have been a little over kill but at least I know it will last.  I got three 300 feet long by 8 feet high rolls of game fence.  You could also buy the plastic deer fencing (much cheaper) but you also need good posts for that and anything over 10′ in length gets pricey.  My trade off was a solid fence and cheap (in price) fence posts.

Marking the fence corners.

When we tilled up the garden area in the fall our lines looked mostly square and mostly in line with the neighbours fence.  Turns out it was an illusion.  It also meant when we went to mark the corners for the fence it was very confusing as to what was square.  The fence area was also larger then what we originally tilled up.
