Let There Be Light

March 1st, 2009

growlights

Three of the grow light fixtures were wired up and installed.  These three light fixtures will get me started and I will look to wire up three more on the other growing rack we built.  There is a power issue if I wire up all of the light fixtures I can (I’d be over the single circuit amperage).

The bulk of my seed order was finished up last week by our local farm and garden centre.  It was 30 below when I picked them up but I don’t think I was to early to get the order in.  I’m not starting onions since I’ll buy them as bulbs when they come in but other things like the peppers need to get started very shortly.

Tractor Power

You really have to like it when things work.  I went back out to the land to get the lights we left out (or at least put them back in the hot house).  My options were limited so as much as I didn’t want to I decided to try and start the tractor.  I had forgot to take the battery off in the spring and the tractor had been sitting wrapped up all winter.  I wanted to do some spring maintenance on it before firing it up but…

I arrived at the tractor, unwrapped it, put the key in and all the lights came on the glow plugs warmed up and the tractor fired up like it was the summer time.  I managed to hook up the plywood sled with all the lights on it and everything slowly made it back to the main road.  The snow was deep but that tractor pulled through most of it.  Sometimes I had to help it crawl along with the front end loader.
