When we started the garden we knew there was some top soil and then sand underneath.  The neighbours all had good wells.  We decided to try and dig a test whole to see if we could find water.  At about 7 feet down we hit water, then at about 9 feet down we also hit clay and never got passed that.

Apparently clay and sandpoints don’t mix very well (pun only kind of intended).  We spent some time trying to see if we could get passed the clay or find a different spot without clay and were never did.  This has its positives and negatives.
